1-on-1 Coaching for Owner Managers in Edmonton

Helping you work on the business, not be stuck in it.

When they call you “the owner” it has a deeper meaning than “the boss”. It means you can’t quit, no matter what happens.

You know what the weight of real responsibility feels like, and you chose this path. Your team depends on you, your business depends on you, and your family depends on you.

We know how blurry the line between you “the person” and you “the business” can be, and we respect it. We coach you to find balance, set clear priorities, lead your team, and develop your management abilities to meet the challenges your growing business presents.

Explore Services By Company Size

In addition to the unique industry challenges each company faces, our experience shows that companies of similar sizes often face common challenges tied to their organizational structure and staffing levels. To learn more about how we work with companies at your stage of growth, explore the options below:

1-5 Team Members: Ready to Grow

You’ve done the hard work, you chased your dreams and are finally in business for yourself.

Congratulations! You should feel proud!

You also feel like it should be getting easier, but most days you actually feel like you’re drinking from a fire hose of chaos, and you’re not sure if working this hard is really worth it.

Sound familiar? It’s because we’ve been there, we know what you’re going through, and we can help.

The next step in your journey is moving from being great at what you do to building out a great team. We can support you with the strategy, systems, and experience you need to take the guesswork out of growing your operation.

6-15 Employees: Strengthen the Foundation

You have reached the stage where you are no longer the one doing all the work, but you are still involved in just about every decision and problem that happens… and it’s exhausting.

This stage of your company’s growth is about nailing down systems,  creating consistency and mastering the art of effective delegation to lay the foundation for the next building phase.

Common challenges at this stage include internal communications failures, “dropped balls”, team infighting, founder burnout, cash crunches and more.

We can help you and your company transition from your role as head problem solver to head company strategist. We’ll help you achieve a sustainable work-life balance and get the clarity and time you need to really take your business to the next level.

16-25 Employees: Strategic Leadership & Values

You’ve finally made it! Running a business is still stressful, but you don’t feel like you’re one bad break away from bankruptcy anymore (usually!). Your company probably has at least a couple of team members you didn’t personally interview, and that “family business” feel is starting to fade.

The next phase of your development will be about building team leaders vs. individuals. You have started to have discussions about “company culture” as an intentional thing vs. accepting it just the way it is.

You get regular reports on the work of the company, but you spend most of your time on strategic direction and planning.

Common challenges during this phase are developing training programs, retaining key people, learning to manage departmental goals, and not losing track of the unique value you provide to customers.

26-50+ Employees: Leading Your Leaders

You know where you want to go, and you likely even know how to get there; but getting every team member focused on the right thing seems like a monumental challenge. You also spend a lot of time thinking about attracting and retaining key talent.

Your organization has reached the stage where it feels impossible for you to know what everyone in the company is thinking and doing. You’ve long since passed the stage where you know how to do every job in the company, but it’s still your job to provide “strategic direction”.

You are feeling disconnected from the front line and have been thinking a lot about how to improve vertical and horizontal communication in your company.

Challenges at this development stage tend to be fairly unique but primarily center around internal feedback and communication mechanisms, team training, and talent attraction/retention.

Exit Planning: Getting Ready For What's Next

The decision to sell is one of the hardest decisions a business owner can make. You want to tell yourself “it’s just business”, but you have poured your heart and soul into what you’ve built, and selling it feels like agreeing to sell your left arm.

Exiting a business is a complicated mix of maximizing sale value, removing yourself from operations, finding a buyer, and finding your own new purpose.

If you’ve never been through it, it’s hard to understand the emotional rollercoaster you’re about to get on, or anticipate the hard curves you are about to experience.

A good exit plan can take up to three years to design & implement, so if you have started to think about selling or transitioning to a family member “one of these days,” why not start the conversation now?

We can help you create a checklist of what needs to get done, connect you to exit planning resources, and share with you some tips for finding the right buyer.

I have owned and scaled my own companies and I know it can feel like no one understands the struggle you face. I’ve been there and I can help.

How 1-on-1 coaching works for Edmonton leaders

1

Step 1: We Listen

We know that you are the expert in your business, we start all engagements by interviewing you to understand what’s going well and what you would like to be different.

Working alongside you we map how your business gets done, your team environment, financial metrics, mindset and more.

2

Step 2: We Ask

Once we know where you are, we help you gain clarity on where you would like to be.

We support you in setting and clarifying goals and identifying gaps.

3

Step 3: We Customize your Design

Now that we know where you are and also where you want to be with your business, we work with you to design a customized development plan with specific training objectives, clear deliverables, timelines and expected benefits.

4

Step 4: We Deliver Specifics

What makes our coaching programs different is that they always come with defined start and end dates.

Before we were coaches, we were business owners, and we know it’s about getting you the results you need on schedule and on budget not about paying another monthly membership fee.

We design coaching programs with specific deliverables to help you accomplish your own specific goals and we deliver.

When we reach the end of our agreement, we will then review progress together and decide on next steps, (if any) are needed.

5

Step 5: We Wait & Support

Upon completion of a successful development program, like your other professional advisors, we go on “standby” mode.

Here if you need us, but not driving up your expenses if you don’t.

Some clients enjoy our optional quarterly support program where we schedule periodic sessions to assist you with accountability and support as you work towards achieving your goals.
