Leadership & community

Education & certifications

1

Entrepreneurial foundation

  • Raised in an entrepreneurial & farming family.
  • First sale at age 10 in his mother’s small town jewelry store.
  • Early exposure to ranch and retail operations shaped an entrepreneurial spirit, an appreciation for building a business, and a commitment to hard work.

Early career

Early experiences moved Jeff from farm boy, through the oil patch as a rig hand, and onto Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician— before returning to business school, providing a deep understanding and ground-level respect for working on the frontline in addition to the merits of working in the office.

While attending business school, he worked in sales and learned many new skills through years of active volunteerism, having served with over 100 different organizations, including serving as Vice Chair of Community and Social Development for the City of Lethbridge and Board Member of both the Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development.

Due to hard work, extensive volunteer experience and reputation he was named Executive Director of United Way of Southwestern Alberta at the age of 33 a post he held for 6 years; for which he was recognized in the inaugural listing of the Top 40 Under 40 in Lethbridge among other local accolades.

Business ownership & operations

  • On his honeymoon, with a little too much spare time on their hands, Jeff’s new wife became his new business partner when they both decided they should leave the city and buy a “quiet” little country store that was up for sale on the steps of the soon-to-be-minted Castle Provincial Park.
  • With a little bit of hard work and ingenuity, what started out as a small “Mom & Pop” operation quickly grew from one staff member, to a team of twenty-five with operations in several revenue segments, including a popular deli, liquor and convenience store, retail and wholesale bakery, catering operations and more.
  • After six years of rapid growth and having added significant value to the business, the couple was able to realize a profitable exit and relocate with their family to Edmonton to be closer to friends and family.

Recent experience & transition to coaching

After a successful business exit, Jeff was recruited to consult for a UK based Hydrogen electric heavy-payload drone startup on investor development and Canadian market entry; he eventually served as interim COO where he worked to refine business and manufacturing plans for the firm.

After a strategic investor encouraged the company to shift away from Canadian operations, Jeff exited the firm amicably, thankful for the experience gained in both deep tech development and venture capital funding.

Jeff continued to work as a consultant for long-time associates on various consulting projets while searching for his next “big” business idea. As happens to many entrepreneurs, what started out as an enjoyable side project quickly turned into a full time passion project.

Searching for solutions to bring even more value to his clients, Jeff bought into the Focal Point training franchise to add their deep content library and worldwide network of subject matter experts to his own experience in serving his clients. Which led to the present day operation known as Focal Point Business Training Edmonton.
